Six-person crew lined up for College Nationals to begin curating library of women’s-specific content
Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 10, 2017)—Inspired by Fulcrum Media’s coverage of women in ultimate at last year’s National Championships, USA Ultimate is engaging the production company to expand upon that concept and further showcase female athletes in the mixed and women’s divisions.
All totaled, USA Ultimate and Fulcrum will record a minimum of 74 women’s and mixed division games across the 2017 College Championships, U.S. Open and National Championships, generating a library of women’s-specific video that will be used to create content such as highlight reels, athlete and team profiles, Top-10 lists, complete game footage, and more.
“Each year, when I attend our premier events, I am inspired by the amazing grace and grit of these athletes,” commented Tom Crawford, USA Ultimate CEO. “This project ensures we’ll capture many of those moments for all to enjoy as we celebrate and promote these amazing athletes.”
“The project that Callie Mah and the Fulcrum team led last year in Rockford did a remarkable job of highlighting many of ultimate’s top athletes and teams, and we wanted to emulate that concept and take it to the next level,” explained Andy Lee, managing director of marketing, communications and brand. “We were proud to help subsidize the original campaign alongside many other members of the ultimate community. Ultimately, that experience inspired us to reach out to Fulcrum in January to develop a plan that would replicate that idea on a grander scale.”
Last fall, USA Ultimate designated and approved a $50,000 budget to support a media campaign designed to promote women in ultimate. This initial investment will fund labor, equipment rental and travel and accommodation for Fulcrum’s production team, plus inventory and curation of all game footage and some video editing. In order to maximize the coverage with a consistent and comprehensive stream of content following the events, USA Ultimate and Fulcrum will team up later this year to seek additional funding for further video editing.
“Fulcrum Media is honored to be storytellers of our great sport,” added co-owner Luke Johnson. “We are excited to be partnering with USA Ultimate during 2017 to tell stories that profoundly matter and showcase athletes worthy of the spotlight.”
Coverage begins at the 2017 USA Ultimate College Championships in Mason, Ohio, May 26-29 where a dedicated crew of six from Fulcrum Media – editors Callie Mah and Jesse Shofner and camera operators Eddie Chan, Roberto Flores, Cam Hodgkinson and Luke Johnson – will capture at least 27 women’s division games on film.
