2019 USA Ultimate College Championships Headed to Texas

D-I Championships to Round Rock; D-III Championships to Bryan College Station

Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 23, 2018) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States and proud member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, announced today the dates and locations for both its 2019 College Championship events. The 2019 Division I College Championships will be held just outside Austin, in Round Rock, Texas, May 24-27. The 2019 Division III College Championships will take place May 18-19, in Bryan College Station, Texas.

The Division I College Championships will be held Memorial Day Weekend, Friday through Monday, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex and be hosted by the Ultimate Players League of Austin (UPLA) and the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau in association with USA Ultimate.

“The Ultimate Players League of Austin is excited to partner with USA Ultimate to host the 2019 D-I College Championships,” said UPLA President Lydia Rudy. “This is an unbeatable opportunity for our local ultimate community and the City of Round Rock and surrounding areas. We look forward to an amazing and competitive Memorial Day Weekend 2019!”

“We are honored and proud that Round Rock was selected to host the USA Ultimate 2019 College Championships,” said Nancy Yawn, director of the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, a division of the City of Round Rock Sports Management and Tourism Department. “In addition to flexible fields for tournament games and two beautiful championship game fields, our new, state-of-the-art Round Rock Multipurpose Complex features many wonderful amenities for everyone playing, watching and working the tournament. We look forward to giving the players, their families and all of the ultimate fans a friendly Texas welcome to the Sports Capital of Texas!”

2019 will mark the first time the USA Ultimate College Championships have returned to Texas since 2003, when the event was held in Austin.

The 2019 Division III College Championships will be held at the Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station, Texas, located about 100 miles east of Austin. Bryan College Station Ultimate, with the support of Bryan College Station Sports + Events, will be the local organizing committee for the event.

“Bringing USA Ultimate to Bryan College Station has been a priority for a few years now, and we’re excited to break through with the 2019 D-III College Championships,” said John Friebele, director of sports and events for Bryan College Station Sports + Events. “We know this will be a great event for everyone involved, and BCS Sports + Events is thrilled to serve as host. This community is ready to provide the competitors and attendees a truly unforgettable experience.”

“We are excited to welcome USA Ultimate to College Station and looking forward to hosting our first College Championships in May 2019,” J.D. Wood, tourism manager for the city of College Station. “As we continue to add fields and amenities to Veterans Park & Athletic Complex, we have wanted to diversify the type of sporting events that we host, and this event opens a whole new arena of events to potentially bring to our community. Ultimate has been a sport growing very quickly in College Station with ultimate clubs, local events and now even an ultimate league through the city. That increased attention and focus locally, accompanied with the opportunity to host an event of this level, will officially cement ultimate as a major sport in College Station.”

Each year, USA Ultimate’s College Championships crown Division I and Division III national champions in the men’s and women’s divisions. More than 800 teams, comprised of more than 15,000 athletes, will compete in the 2019 college regular season and USA Ultimate Postseason Championship Series, with eyes on qualifying for the Division I or Division III College Championships.
