Dan “my name’s not motor” Moder is perhaps the noodliest person to ever play the sport of ultimate. He came to Dartmouth from Needham, Mass., and made an immediate impact on the field, striking fear in the hearts of his opponents with his shriek-mark throws and jaw-dropping layouts. With the way he seems to bend space to his will, his friends and his foes have often theorized that he has an extra joint in each limb.

But if Moder has ever heard the chorus of “wow” that so oft accompanies his subtle performance, the viewer would never know. The unwavering humility with which he approaches every aspect of the game, from recruiting and welcoming players who have never touched a disc to trying out for the U.S. National Team, is dumbfounding. Moder embodies the very best that is our sport.
