Team Biography
The UC-Berkeley women’s team was founded in 1988, and only four years later reached the finals of the College Championships. After another Nationals appearance in 1992, Cal went on to win the 1993 championship. Sometime in the 1990s, the team was named the Pie Queens after the team’s favorite post-tournament soul food restaurant, Lois the Pie Queen, in Oakland, Calif. After a streak of Nationals appearances in the early 2000s, the Pie Queens reached the big show in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and returned last year in 2016. Cal has been home to a number of big names in ultimate, including Hall of Famer Molly Goodwin and 2016 Callahan Award winner Marisa Rafter.
